A man suffered a significant facial injury after a "shocking" early morning attack in the city centre. Police were called to Fleet Street just before 2.50am today, January 26, after reports a 20 year old man had been slashed in the face.

The attacker is believed to have run off in the direction of Back Colquitt Street. The victim received hospital treatment after the attack, but has since been discharged.

Now officers have released CCTV of a man they believe could have information about the attack. Detective Inspector Ruth Tickle of Merseyside Police said: “This was a shocking assault which has left a young male with a significant injury to his face. At this stage we believe the injured man may have tried to intervene in a disturbance when he was assaulted.
