Man's 'reem' hairstyle leaves fans in stitches after being compared to after-school snack

A new viral trend is sweeping the internet where people are styling their hair in various ways to make it look 'reem'. However, one bloke received quite an unusual response to his hairstyle.

The 'reem' trend started when The Only Way Is Essex's Joey Essex entered the Love Island villa last month. Enthusiastic fans of the 33-year-old dug up a track he released back in 2011 aptly titled 'reem', after the catchphrase he used on TOWIE.

This slang term, which translates to "stylish, cool, fashionable", has once again sparked a storm on social media, with people presenting their latest "reem" hairstyles. However, a bloke who goes by the handle @rooster_8880 online was mockingly likened to a nostalgic after-school snack when he posted his hairstyle online.

In the viral clip, racking up more than 490,000 likes, he is seen dancing in his car to a snippet of Joey Essex's track, with his hair sculpted into a peak with hair gel. He captioned his post: "My hair looking reem."

However, TikTok trolls were swift to draw comical parallels in the comments, comparing his hair to McVities Iced Gems — tiny, round biscuits garnished with a hardened, colourful icing swirl. One commenter jested: "Omg I miss iced gems."

Another contributor said: "This is actually the only acceptable definition of hair looking reem," while a third chimed in: "'Iced Gems please mate'." Meanwhile, another one wrote: "The toothpaste on my toothbrush."

Joey Essex, a well-known face on our screens, has been revealed as the first Bombshell of the new summer series of Love Island during the premiere episode. This is a first for the long-standing reality TV show.

While previous Islanders like Adam Collard and Kady McDermott have made a comeback to the villa in hopes of finding love on national television, Joey is the first celebrity to join the show as a contestant.

The surprise addition to Love Island is no stranger to reality TV, having appeared on numerous shows worldwide since his debut on TOWIE in 2011. Over the years, he's not only coined his catchphrase 'reem' on the show from 2011 until 2013, but also braved the jungle for the 13th series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

In 2013, he clinched victory in the Channel 4 series The Jump, had two stints on Celebs Go Dating, featured on Celebrity Ex on the Beach, faced challenges on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, cooked up a storm on Celebrity MasterChef and made a splash in the first series of Splash!

More recently, Joey — who was once engaged to fellow TOWIE star Sam Faiers - tackled the Australian jungle in the eighth series of "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! " Down Under, securing a respectable sixth place. Fast forward to 2023, and he skated his way to becoming the runner-up in the 15th series of Dancing on Ice.
