Manuel Pellegrini rules out Yaya Toure deal with West Ham squad 'complete'

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out a summer move for former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, insisting his squad is complete.

While the transfer deadline closed ahead of their Premier League opener, Toure remains an option being a free agent after leaving City at the end of last season. Clubs submitted a 25-man squad list to the Premier League ahead of the new season, but that list can still be tweaked until the end of the month.

The midfielder, 35, made 133 appearances under the Chilean during his tenure at Manchester City, scoring 44 goals and winning the Premier League title and League Cup.

The Hammers have spent over £100million on their squad with nine new senior arrivals following Pellegrini’s appointment, and he insists he has the group needed for the season ahead.

“Yaya Toure is a good player, [but] in this position we have our players,” Pellegrini said.

“He will always be a good player but for the moment he is not for West Ham. For the moment, the squad is complete.”

Since the close of the window both Edimilson Fernandes and Toni Martinez have left the club on loan and, while Pellegrini knows his squad needed to be trimmed, but he feels there will be no more departures.

“When we built up a squad we knew that some players had to go out also because of the new nine players,” he added.

“Especially young players need to play, they knew from the beginning they would go out on loan. The squad is the squad I want for the season.

“I don’t think any other players going out at the moment.”
