Why Moyes left

Standard Sport understands that Moyes ruled himself out of taking the job on a permanent basis after growing unhappy at his situation and treatment by the club.

On Monday, the day after the Scot’s short-term contract expired, Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Fonseca was interviewed by David Sullivan at the co-owner’s Essex house, even as well-sourced reports were suggesting the Scot was still in the frame for the job.

On the same day, Moyes was told by Sullivan in a telephone conversation that one reason the club were contemplating a change was that fans were eager for a new face.
