How Many UK Students Do You Think Do Porn Or Webcam Work To Pay For Uni?

UK students are turning to online sex work to pay their way through university, according to a new survey.

While bar and shop work is still by far the most popular source of extra income, some 36 per cent of undergraduates said they now funded their degree by working online.

Of those, some 23 per cent sold clothes and 14 per cent blogged.

But an astonishing 11 per cent (that’s more than one in 10) said they did porn.

Some 4 per cent said they sold worn underwear, while 19 per cent did webcam work - which is not specified, but admittedly sounds slightly dodgy.

They earned an average of £189 per week doing it.

“I’m not massively surprised some are turning to online work, but I am extremely surprised at the amount that are doing online work of sexual nature,” said George Charles, of VoucherCodesPro, which commissioned the research.

“It is, however, good to see that students are being financially aware and responsible and aren’t just ringing the bank of mum and dad,” he added.

Some 995 students answered the survey.

A total of 44 per cent said they worked in retail, 31 per cent in the hospitality industry, 24 per cent in bars and clubs and 13 per cent in admin roles.

When asked why they took on extra work, 13 per cent said it was because their student loan didn’t cover their rent, while 24 per cent said they wanted extra money.

Some 19 per cent said they enjoyed the work, 18 per cent like the risk involved and 12 per cent said it was the only job available.
