In a season where playoff expectations are mounting, “all or nothing” is an apt description for the 2021 Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ahead of the season opener, Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan revealed that the team’s upcoming campaign will be documented in an Amazon Prime series titled All Or Nothing, which will provide unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the team.
Amazon’s All or Nothing series previously featured the All Blacks rugby team (ed. note: highly recommend it!) and Tottenham Hotspur.
“This upcoming NHL season will be unique for many different reasons,” Shanahan said via NHL.com’s Nicholas J. Cotsonika. "We feel that 'All or Nothing' will provide our team a way to connect with Maple Leafs fans here in Toronto and around the world like never before.”
It truly feels like an all-or-nothing season for the Buds as well. Toronto was eliminated in the qualifying round against the Columbus Blue Jackets last summer, following three consecutive first-round exits in previous years. Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are among the best young players in the league but this is no longer a team devoid of experience, and pressure is mounting for the club not to only win a playoff round, but win it all, as cap constraints and expiring contracts loom large for general manager Kyle Dubas.
Toronto is the near-consensus favourite in the revamped North division, comprised of all the NHL’s Canadian teams. The upcoming series aims to provide access to the Maple Leafs that has only been paralleled by HBO’s Road To the Winter Classic series.
Here’s to hoping that we get to see more of the team’s genuine personalities and less from the “pucks in deep” industrial complex.
