The cheapest towns and cities to buy a house in the UK have now been revealed. Our exclusive analysis of the latest Land Registry data has now named the top 20 postcode areas with the lowest house prices across the country.
Our interactive map, which highlights how much property costs have changed up and down the country, shows that Middlesbrough town centre (TS1) is currently the most affordable area to buy a property in England and Wales. Homes in the TS1 postcode sold for an average of £69,874 over the last 12 months up to the end of July.
The next cheapest place to buy a house in the UK is Grimsby (DN31), with an average house price of £78,192 as of July, followed by Shildon (DL4) where homes sell for an average of £85,666.

On the opposite end of the scale, Mayfair (WK1) is the most expensive area to buy a house across the UK, with the the highest average house price of £5,488,374 over the last 12 months. Belgravia is next, with the second highest property costs reaching an average of £3,945,495.
