It has been six months since Donald Trump was inaugurated as the President of the United States.

In the US, his leadership rating has consistently slipped - especially in the wake of the developing investigation into his campaign's ties with Russia.

Across the globe, only a few countries view Trump’s presidency favourably, according to data from Pew Research Center.

The study, which was conducted across 37 countries, finds that less than half of the people in most countries have confidence in the US President to do the right thing regarding world affairs.

The Philippines has the highest levels of approval for Trump, with 69 per cent of the country having confidence in the US President. However, this figure still represents a plunge from the 91 per cent that the country awarded Obama during his reign.

Russia is also one of the selected few with a positive view towards Trump’s leadership, with 53 per cent of the country viewing his foreign policies favourably.

In Russia, Trump received a higher approval rating than Obama and Bush

Trump's policies on world affairs seem to sit better with the Russians than his predecessors - with Russia giving him a much higher confidence rating than Obama and Bush.

This is in contrast to a majority of the Western European countries, including the UK, who do not endorse Trump's leadership.

Their confidence in the current US President has plunged to the same level as it was during Bush administration.

Trump's policy proposals receive widespread disapproval

The president's controversial stance on some of the world’s affairs have received disapproval globally.

His constant talk about building a wall at the border with Mexico have been viewed negatively, with more than 70 per cent of the world opposing his proposals.

Trump officially announced that the US would pull out of the Paris climate change accord last month. The survey, which was conducted before his speech on the 1 June, found that only 19 per cent support the US backing away from the international climate change agreements.

Close to half also disapprove Trump’s proposals to withdraw US support from the Iran nuclear agreements.

Trump, who is a fierce critique to the deal, reluctantly recertified the Iran nuclear deals on Monday but warned Tehran that it was not following the spirit of its 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers.

The very next day, the US unveiled new economic sanctions against Iran over its ballistic missile programme and for contributing to regional tensions, and said it was deeply concerned about its "malign activities across the Middle East."

The results of the Pew Research Center's Spring 2017 Global Attitudes Survey are conducted through face-to-face and phone interviews and are based on national samples, unless otherwise noted. The sample size in the UK is 1,066.
