Marcella series 2: Everything you need to know about the return of the ITV drama starring Anna Friel

Anna Friel’s troubled detective is back on screens with another seemingly inscrutable case.

Here’s everything you need to know about series two of hit ITV crime drama Marcella.

What’s it about?

The action kicks off with the discovery of a body dressed in a school blazer and surrounded by children’s toys hidden in a wall. It’s quickly identified as a friend of Marcella’s son, schoolboy Leo Priestley who was abducted a few years earlier.

Part of the task force charged with unravelling the mystery of Priestley’s disappearance and death, Marcella throws herself into the case.

But she’s still suffering from blackouts that are having an increasingly harmful effect on her and her family.

Can she solve the murder and keep a grip on reality?

Who’s in the cast?

Anna Friel is of course reprising her role as the titular Marcella, and she’s not the only one to have signed up for another series. Nicholas Pinnock returns as her ex Jason Backland and Ray Panthaki is also back as DI Rav Sangha.

New additions include White Gold star Jack Doolan and My Mad Fat Diary actor Keith Allen.

Will Marcella’s iconic coat be making a comeback?

Sadly for fans of the parka (which sold out in shops after series one of the show), Marcella has a new look in upcoming episodes.

In production shots, the character can be seen sporting a brand new blue trench coat.
