Confetti falls on Marco Belinelli's game-tying buzzer beater, but 76ers fall in OT

Less than two seconds separated the 76ers from a nearly impossible 3-0 deficit against the Celtics. Then Marco Belinelli stepped in.

With just 1.7 seconds remaining in the game, Bellinelli caught the inbounds pass near the baseline, turned around and tied the game with a floater in one fluid motion. The Philadelphia crowd roared and Belinelli was immediately picked up and carried away by the Sixers bench.

That’s the kind of shot you honor with confetti, even if there are still at least another five minutes left to play in the game. A local hero was responsible for the flub.

Ultimately, it was probably for the best that the 76ers released the confetti as regulation ended, because they didn’t have much to celebrate in overtime. Al Horford and Jayson Tatum took control to deliver a 101-98 win and give the Celtics that 3-0 lead. But at least Belinelli, who finished with 112 points on 4-of-12 shooting, was able to give his team hope for just a few more minutes.
