Marcus Rashford an injury concern as England touch down in Russia for World Cup

England and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford picked up a knock in their final training session on Monday before travelling to Russia today, Gareth Southgate has revealed.

Southgate’s side touched down in St. Petersburg on Tuesday afternoon, and the England manager confirmed the news moments after stepping off the plane.

The Three Lions had their final training session on Monday at St. Georges Park when Rashford picked up the knock. Southgate does not think the injury to be serious and the 20-year-old's place in the squad isn’t under threat.

“Marcus took a slight knock, but nothing too serious,” Southgate told the BBC.

“We'll look at that ahead of tomorrow's session which is open for everybody to see.”

Rashford looked to be going into the World Cup in fine form, having scored a stunning strike in England’s final warm up game before this summer’s tournament, a 2-0 win over Costa Rica.

England’s medical team will assess the extent of the injury tomorrow morning before the side's open training session, although it is not thought to be a serious issue for the forward.
