A statue of Margaret Thatcher has been vandalised for the second time - just two weeks after it was egged on the day it was installed.

The £300,000 sculpture of the former Prime Minister was sprayed with paint, sparking a police investigation.

The statue, in Grantham, Lincolnshire, was only installed a couple of weeks ago and this is already the second incident of vandalism.

It went on: "Officers attended and found graffiti had been spray painted onto the barriers surrounding the statue, no damage was thought to have been caused to the statue itself.

"This is being treated as criminal damage and an enquiry is ongoing."

On Thursday (26 May) police said they had spoken with a 59-year-old man in relation an incident involving eggs being thrown at the statue on 15 May and he had been given a £90 fixed penalty notice under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.
