Simpsons character Marge Simpson found herself embroiled in a Twitter row with Donald Trump 's lawyer over comments she made about Kamala Harris.

Jenna Ellis, an adviser and lawyer to the US president, commented that the Democratic vice presidential candidate's voice sounded like the fictional “suburban housewife”.

But Marge - who is voiced by Julie Kavner - responded to the comments, posting in a video on The Simpsons' official Twitter account to say said she felt "disrespected" by the comparison.

She also told Ms Ellis not to "name-call".

“I usually don’t get into politics, but the president’s senior adviser, Jenna Ellis, just said Kamala Harris sounds like me,” Marge says in the clip, adding that daughter Lisa Simpson says ”she doesn’t mean it as a compliment.”

“If that’s so, as an ordinary suburban housewife, I’m starting to feel a little disrespected,” Marge said. “I teach my children not to name call, Jenna.”

As the half-minute clip ends, an off-camera Marge is heard muttering: “I was gonna say I’m p***** off, but I’m afraid they’d bleep it.”

Ms Ellis, who has repeatedly criticised mail-in voting, hit back: "Marge is probably going to vote Democrat... by mail."

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump tweeted that the “‘suburban housewife’ will be voting for me" because he “ended the long-running program where low-income housing would invade their neighbourhood.”

Senator Harris of California was announced this week as presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s pick for his running mate.

In her first speech as vice presidential candidate, she was highly critical of Mr Trump and said he "cares more about himself than the people who elected him".

The party’s convention will be held next week, mostly virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Simpsons is known for mocking public figures and celebrities, including Mr Trump.
