Mariah Carey Can’t Marry Billionaire James Packer – Because Nick Cannon Won’t Sign Their Divorce Papers

It looks as though Mariah Carey won’t be marrying her Australian billionaire beau any time soon, since her former partner Nick Cannon is still legally married to her – and refuses to sign the divorce papers.

The couple announced their separation in August 2014 and filed for divorce just four months later, but they remain in stalemate because the 35-year-old presenter reportedly ‘still loves Mariah and doesn’t want to officially let her go.’

Even though Cannon originally filed the court documents to move proceedings along and end the couple’s marriage, he seems to have had a change of heart.

According to TMZ, sources close to the couple revealed that the superstar has been ‘trying to get Nick to sign off for almost a year’, but he refuses to co-operate because he reportedly doesn’t want her to tie the knot with her fiancé, James Packer.

Nick and Mariah wed in 2008 at her private estate on Windermere Island in the Bahamas, and the couple have two children together, four-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.

It is believed that financial-settlement issues initially delayed their divorce proceedings, but this has reportedly been resolved, with the couple also settling for joint custody of their children.

Sources say that Mariah is upset and frustrated at the situation because she is currently busy planning her wedding to James, who she entered into a relationship with in June last year.

The Aussie businessman is worth an estimated $4.5 billion and reportedly spent a whopping $7million on the 35-carat diamond engagement ring that he proposed to her with back in January.

Ironically, Nick was one of the first stars to congratulate the couple on their announcement at the time, taking to Instagram to share a hilarious snap with Kevin Hart.

In the photo, the America’s Got Talent presenter was pictured in a hospital bed, as his comedian comrade peered over him with a worried expression.

Nick captioned the photo: “Ha! This made me laugh out loud for real!!! HILARIOUS! #AllLove.

“Congrats to @MariahCarey and James! May God Bless Your Future Union… #GreatPeople #GreatCouple.”

Though his diagnosis was unclear, we’re pretty sure that he was (and seemingly still is) suffering from a serious case of heartsickness.
