Mariah Carey Pulls Off Festive Prank on Jimmy Kimmel While He’s Sleeping
Mariah Carey brought the Christmas spirit to Jimmy Kimmel’s house. But she arrived the middle of the night while he was sleeping.
The singer, known for her holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” pranked the late night host by waking him up to declare that “it’s time” for the holiday season to get underway.

The Queen of Christmas was joined by Santa Claus, a gingerbread man and festive lights for a dance party in Kimmel’s bedroom as Carey’s hit song played over a loudspeaker. A look of confusion swept across Kimmel’s face as the singer tossed fake snow on the bed and around his room.
“I’m like laying there and I’m like, ‘Something smells good,'” Kimmel later tells the singer, as he’s wearing his wife’s bathrobe and a mouth guard. “It was you, it turns out.”
With the prank, Carey now joins an exclusive list of music superstars who have terrified Kimmel in his sleep, including Rihanna, Britney Spears, Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus.
The following day, during Carey’s appearance on Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host told her, “I thought it was a dream. It was really very confusing, I have to say.”
The prank came just a day after Carey shared her annual video at midnight on Nov. 1 to celebrate the transition from Halloween into the Christmas season. This year, she could be seen dressed in a holiday outfit, being defrosted by spooky characters.
The singer explained to Kimmel why she has started to embrace an early launch to the holiday season in recent years.
“I had to just go with the flow because everybody was rushing the holiday season and they started playing my song,” Carey said. “So I kept being like, ‘Not yet, don’t play it yet. It’s not time yet, why are we playing Christmas songs?’ But they were doing it, so then I just was like, ‘OK, it became like a joke, just for laughs.'”
Carey is set to embark on her upcoming 13-date Merry Christmas One and All! tour, which starts Nov. 15 in Highland, California.
