Mariah Carey sued for battery and discrimination by ex-assistant
A former assistant of Mariah Carey has filed a lawsuit against the singer, claiming that Carey and her former manager Stella Bulochnikov caused her "emotional turmoil".
According to MailOnline, Lianna Shakhnazarian – who worked for Carey for two years until 2017 – is suing for racial discrimination and battery.
Shakhnazarian's claims have come to light just days after Carey filed her own lawsuit in New York City, in which the singer accused her former assistant of using her credit card.
In the document, Carey is said to have accused Shakhnazarian of filming 'intimate moments' of the star without her knowledge, and later threatening to release the footage unless she was paid a substantial sum of money.
In response, Shakhnazarian has brought forward her own allegations against Carey and her former manager, claiming her work environment had caused her "emotional turmoil".
As well as claiming to have witnessed "severely inappropriate behaviour", Carey's ex-assistant alleged that she had been subjected to "aggressive, abusive, and harmful physical conduct".
Digital Spy has reached out to Carey's reps for comment on the suit.
Last year, Mariah shared her diagnosis of bipolar disorder with fans, revealing that she lived in "constant fear" of someone 'exposing' the reality of her mental health.
"I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me," she said. "It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn't do that anymore.
"I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love – writing songs and making music."
