Mark Allen avoiding another 'eight Jager bomb' celebration after latest 147 maximum break
Mark Allen made a magical 147 maximum break on the table he demanded to be “burned” at the British Open. Earlier this week, the world No.3 lashed out at the playing conditions on the World Snooker Tour.
But just days later, the Antrim ace compiled the fourth maximum of his career during a 4-1 last-32 victory over Ben Mertens at Cheltenham’s Centaur. A recent video circulated on social media of Allen making back-to-back 147s at an exhibition event, which he celebrated with “eight Jager bombs”. He won't be repeating that trick with a mouth-watering quarter-final clash with world No.1 Judd Trump up next on Friday night.
And the Pistol will be able to buy plenty more with the £5,000 highest break prize he will pocket if the feat is not matched this week. “It was a great buzz,” said Allen, who was locked at 1-1 with last year’s Northern Ireland Open runner-up Chris Wakelin with a spot in today’s quarter-finals up for grabs.

“The crowd really got into it and as usual I didn’t make it easy for myself. I pulled off a great shot on 72 and another good shot on 88.
“Any 147 is good, but to do it in front of a crowd at a big event is really pleasing.
“Winning a tournament is far more important, but you get a build up of adrenaline during the break of a 147.
“The expectation level rises when they’re all there at the end. There’s probably more pressure making a 147.
"I made two in a row in an exhibition recently. I celebrated the first one with a Jager bomb and then I had eight after the second! I wasn't even meant to be drinking."
WST re-covered the tables ahead of the quarter-finals following player comments.
A statement read: “We have analysed the conditions and listened to feedback from the players and made the decision to move forward a scheduled re-cover of the tables from Friday night to Thursday night.
“This means both tables used for the quarter-finals on Friday will have a new cloth.
“The heavy rainfall this week has created a challenging environment, but we always strive to provide the best possible table conditions.”
