It's not a question we've actually asked ourselves before, but now feel we should have – shouldn't Luke Skywalker be royalty?

After all, his sister Leia was a Princess, his mother was Queen Amidala and his father was an evil Sith Lord... well, the latter not so much.

Nevertheless, it was a question actor Mark Hamill raised with two people who know quite a bit about royalty – Princes William and Harry – when they visited the set of The Last Jedi.

"I used that opportunity when I met the princes to try to solve something that had been bothering me since Return of the Jedi," Hamill told a press conference (via PA).

"When they told me Carrie [Fisher] and I were brother and sister, I said, 'Wait a minute, if Luke is Princess Leia's brother, doesn't that make me royalty?' And she immediately said no.

"But when I met the princes I said, 'I really want your opinion on this'. I said, 'My mother was Queen Amidala, my father was Lord Vader, my sister is Princess Leia – doesn't that make me royalty?'"

So what was the official word from the royal family?

"Unfortunately it was a split decision because William said yes and Harry said, 'I need more information'," Hamill continued. "So I said, 'Darn it. I need the ammunition to rub it in Carrie's nose! It's been going on for 40 years!'"

Alongside cameos in The Last Jedi, William and Harry were both at the premiere of the latest Star Wars movie earlier this week, where they had an adorable encounter with BB-8.

Actually, can we just make BB-8 a Prince?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in UK cinemas now, and is released in US cinemas tomorrow (December 15).
