A Leeds man has been found guilty of killing a woman and dumping her body near a supermarket in Harehills.

Mark Metcalfe, 40, was found not guilty of the murder of Theresa Jordan, also known as Terri, but guilty of manslaughter and preventing the lawful burial of a body following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Terri's body was discovered in a bush near the Asda store in Kimberley Road in Harehills on June 23, 2022.

Prosecutors told jurors during the trial Terri had been with a friend at Metcalfe's home in Compton Crescent on June 11 the same year taking crack cocaine and drinking. It was said the two women fell out and left but Terri returned and was attacked and killed by Metcalfe.

Jurors heard Metcalfe then stripped Terri of all of her clothes except her socks, put her body in a wheelie bin and left it outside until others noted the smell. He then moved Terri's body to the place it would be found on June 23. This was captured on CCTV.

Ms Jordan died “shortly after June 11” although it was not possible to establish a cause of death due to the “significant decomposition”, a pathologist said.

Terri was described by her heartbroken family as a "beloved daughter, mother and sister".

Metcalfe will be sentenced at a later date.
