The serial rapist who violently attacked six women cried in front of five of his victims before he was jailed for two decades.

Mark Scott, 34, was found guilty of nine counts of rape and one of attempted rape following his trial at Hull Crown Court.

After sentencing, Humberside Police said Scott was "a vile and abhorrent sex criminal" who tried to "wriggle out of his perverted crimes".

The former prison officer, who had denied any wrongdoing throughout the trial, broke down into tears when the trial judge Recorder Ben Nolan QC gave the outcome on his crimes committed between 2005 and 2018.

The judge told Scott he had an “ingrained sense of entitlement to sex on his terms” and he had an “obsessive interest” in ‘forced sex’ pornography.

Scott, formerly of Daville Close in west Hull, met his victims on nights out, through friends and on the dating websites Plenty of Fish and Badoo.

The judge said the victims had “shown remarkable courage”.

The first victim, who had suffered suicidal thoughts following the encounter, said she was “feeling worthless for anyone or anything”.

The second victim said that she no longer is able to trust men.

The third victim said to the court: “What this man did to me has changed me and changed my life.

“His actions have left me with low self-worth.

“Everything is hard for me to do now. If he can do it to me, what’s to stop him doing it to someone else? ‘I just wish I’d never spoken to him that night. This would never have happened. I’m angry and I’m too young to feel that way. ‘He’s taken a piece of me away I’ll never be able to get back.”

The fourth victim said giving evidence and being cross-examined was “extremely traumatic”.

The fifth victim said she now has trouble sleeping and has had to have time off work.

Detective Sergent Anneliese Tomlinson of Humberside Police said due to the violence of Scott’s crimes, it was “only a matter of time” before Scott killed someone.

Ms Tomlinson said: “The women had to relive the nightmare of their experiences in court purely because Mark Scott tried to save himself from going to prison.”
