Mark Warburton insists top scorer Nahki Wells is happy at QPR with a decision set to be made over his future at the club.

Wells, who was left on the bench for Friday night’s FA Cup fourth round defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, has scored 15 times for the Rs since arriving on what is scheduled to be a second successive season-long loan from Burnley last summer.

However, that form has led to interest from Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, and the Premier League side could potentially cash-in this month by recalling the striker and selling him on on a permanent basis.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche confirmed on Friday that there is a break clause in the deal with Rangers, and suggested that although he was reluctant to disrupt Wells’ run at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, a final decision would be before the window shuts next week.

“I know Sean very well,” Warburton said. “We worked together. He’s kept me in touch and vice versa.

“They’re happy with their loan player’s progress, we’re happy with the loan player’s progress, and Nahki’s very happy at QPR. That’s all I know at the moment.”

Wells joined Burnley from Huddersfield for £5million in August 2017, but played a total of just 45 minutes of Premier League football in his first season at Turf Moor, and spent the entirety of last season on loan in the Championship with QPR.

“Over the last few days there has been a lot of interest in him,” Dyche confirmed. “Rightly so. He's scoring goals in the Championship.

"He knows he's well-thought-of here but he wanted and needed football. But we will make a decision on that, whichever way that one pans out."
