Mark Wright has been upset to learn he is related to a murderer on Who Do You Think You Are?.

The former TOWIE star is set to follow wife Michelle Keegan in taking part in the BBC genealogy show, which delves into the family tree of the celebrities who take part.

Actress Keegan discovered she was related to suffragette heroine Emmeline Pankhurst and when EastEnders star Danny Dyer appeared on WDYTYA? he was revealed to be related to two former Kings of England - William the Conqueror and Edward III.

But Wright is left spooked by the skeletons in his ancestor’s cupboards, when he learns one of his relations was a killer.

A TV source told The Sun newspaper: “After the amazing discoveries that Michelle had during her appearance on the show, Mark was hoping for similar results. They followed his family history all the way back and traced his roots to Eastern Europe and the travelling community.

“But it was the fact that he had a villainous relative who had committed murder that shocked him. It’s quite an upsetting discovery to uncover.”

Wright appears in the 16th series of the Bafta winning show, which will also feature Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet.

The Titanic star finds out her maternal grandfather Archibald divorced his first wife so that he could marry a younger woman - which created a scandal in 1938.

Other famous names to have delved into their family past on WDYTYA? include JK Rowling and Sir Ian McKellen.
