Facebook’s founder wants to work out the mathematical equation for love.

In a web chat with Stephen Hawking, Mark Zuckerberg said that he is most interested in finding out more about people and what makes us tick.

“I’m also curious about whether there is a fundamental mathematical law underlying human social relationships that governs the balance of who and what we all care about,” he said. “I bet there is.”

It’s no surprise that the man who invented the catch-all emotional response ‘like’ button would want to break the complexities of human emotion down into an easily understood formula.

He also let slip that Facebook wants to get into the telepathy game, which could have far-ranging implications for those of us who often find ourselves using the site while slightly, er, inebriated.

“One day, I believe we’ll be able to send full rich thoughts to each other directly using technology.

“You’ll just be able to think of something and your friends will immediately be able to experience it too if you’d like.”

That’s one of those ideas that sounds good in theory but would be a total nightmare in practice - bit like finding out the formula for social relationships, then.
