Marko Arnautovic could play for any team in the world, but he won't get away with another dip says David Moyes

David Moyes says Marko Arnautovic could play for any team in the world if he continues his upward trajectory.

The Austrian arrived at West Ham as the club-record signing last summer and under Slaven Bilic looked a modicum of the £25million fee paid to Stoke City.

However, since Moyes’ appointment in November, Arnautovic has been transformed and been the standout performer in the Hammers’ climb away from the drop.

Should he continue in his current vein, Moyes feels the 28-year-old could play for any side in the world, but has made the consequences clear should he show any glimpse of turning back to his form in the early part of the season.

“He's got the footballing ability, he's certainly got the self belief I'll tell you that,” Moyes said.

“And that sometimes is needed when you’re a forward, you need self-confidence and arrogance and he has certainly got that.

“I think that if he keeps form, doesn't lose his focus and doesn't go back to the way he was then he could play for any team. He has shown he can and long may it continue.

“I am saying it because I want him to hear it. If I think he is stepping back to how he was before I got here then I am not going to have it, I told him that. He's too good now and we need him.

“I think his play has been consistent, he has contributed in scoring and making goals, effort has been very good, very high work ethic in the games so if he keeps it up we will be more than happy.”
