West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic is returning to the club mid-way through the international break as part of a plan to manage his recent injury problems.

Arnautovic, who scored the only goal in Austria’s 1-0 Nations League win over Northern Ireland last week, has been playing through the pain in recent games and the medical team at Rush Green remained in constant dialogue with their counterparts at the national side.

It was agreed prior to the break that last season’s Hammer of the Year would not feature in Tuesday’s friendly against Denmark, though he was permitted to play in the competitive game against Michael O’Neill’s side.

West Ham, already without the likes of Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez, host London rivals Tottenham when Premier League action returns this weekend, though there is no concern over Arnautovic’s fitness for the London derby.

Arnautovic has four goals in seven Premier League games so far this season.
