Marks & Spencer cashier gives mother a break by holding her restless baby

As any parent knows, trying to get your shopping done while carrying a wriggling baby is not the easiest experience - unless you bump into Mubarak Ahmed at the till.

Lauren Walker was struggling with her fidgeting son Alistair Findlay at the till Marks and Spencer in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, when the cashier stepped in to help.

After talking to the tot to calm him down, he scooped him up and continued to scan the items through the checkout.

"Alistair started getting a bit restless so we decided to go to the checkout," Ms Walker told The Independent. "When we got there, it was the man who had been saying hello [and talking] to him and Alistair started to get excited and shout 'hiya' to him."

The hairdresser from Motherwell added: "When he started scanning the shopping, the man put his arms out for him to take Alistair and help him scan the shopping which I couldn't believe.

"While my mum was packing the shopping, I took a quick video as this was something I'd never seen before and also because it was so nice. Alistair was so happy with him and was totally fixated on what was happening."

Ms Walker's video has received thousands of likes on an M&S Facebook page.

Mr Mubarak said: "Chatting to customers and helping make a difference where I can is the bit of my job I enjoy the most."
