Married chef found dead at HMP Exeter
A cause of death has not yet been confirmed for an Exeter prison inmate who died in his cell on Christmas Eve.
Mark Dean, 48, was found unresponsive in his cell at HMP Exeter around 10am on December 24, 2024. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was unable to be revived.
An inquest into his death recently opened at Exeter Coroners Court. During the short hearing it was confirmed that Mr Dean, who was born in Plymouth, was married and a chef.

Senior coroner Philip Spinney said: "Mr Dean (was) found unresponsive in his prison cell. An incident was raised and paramedics attended. Despite their best efforts he sadly passed away.
"The present medical cause of death is not yet known."
The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held at a later date.
