Married at First Sight spoilers... won't be following as Channel 4 accidentally aired a repeat episode of the popular reality TV show tonight (September 30) on E4, instead of the finale.

Viewers who were on the sofa ready to discover the fate of the last couples were sorely disappointed to find last night's episode was airing instead of the UK finale.

Not long into the episode, a test card appeared, promising "programmes will continue shortly".

Channel 4 representatives told Digital Spy: "Following the incident at the weekend, Channel 4 and All 4 are still experiencing some problems and we're working hard to fix it."

Many took to Twitter to voice their frustration, saying things like: "This isn't what I ordered."

"Me sitting down to watch #MAFSUK finale and thinking it's the longest recap ever," one fan said.

"Everyone waiting for the final vow renewals like..." read another tweet, including a GIF of Titanic's Rose delivering her iconic line: "It's been 84 years..."

The scheduled episode was then replaced by First Dates, a move that elicited even stronger reactions from the public.

"When you think you've finally got the right episode then on comes first dates…." a viewer tweeted.

"Me watching celebs first dates!! I want MAFS," was another comment.

"please can I speak to the manager!!!" another person wrote.

E4 acknowledged the mistake in a tweet, saying it had been experiencing "ongoing tech issues".

"We're aware it's yesterday's episode of #MAFSUK playing out this evening and apologise. It's all down to our ongoing tech issues which we're working hard on," the tweet read.

"We'll update here as soon as we know more and when you'll be able to see the final episode of MAFS UK."

Fans better not hold their breath as it looks like the finale won't be airing tonight. Spin-off Married at First Sight Afters' host AJ Odudu confirmed in a tweet that both MAFS and MAFS Afters will be "coming soon".

Married at First Sight UK airs Monday to Thursday at 9pm on E4, and is also available on All 4.
