It's that time of year again when Married At First Sight has returned to our screens and fans have eagerly been switching to Channel 4 to see this year's brides and grooms. Season nine of the UK version of the show began airing last week, with the very first dinner party taking place last on the Wednesday, September 25 episode.

So far the 2024 cast includes nine brides and seven grooms, including Nottingham barber Adam Aveling. The 33-year-old was matched with bride Polly Sellman, 28, after careful consideration by the beloved experts, Paul C Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling.

Adam has worked as a barber for the last 16 years, sharing that it is the only job he has ever had. Family is really important to him, and the episode showed him spending time with his parents and being an uncle.

The barber stated that he has "never been in love" and has been "struggling" to find someone who he doesn't clash with personality-wise. He told the experts: "I want to love someone and I want to be loved."

The 33-year-old also shared that "looking good is majorly important to me" and that going to the gym, his tattoos, tan and beard are all important to him. He was matched with Polly from Kent, who works as a careers advisor and appears to have a similar confident personality.

However, it was not love at first sight for Adam and Polly at their wedding, which is believed to have taken place at Farnham Castle, Surrey. Polly was quick to compliment Adam, twice, and felt like she fancied him but he did not look impressed.

Adam told viewers that "the initial attraction's not 100 per cent there, she's not my usual type, 10 out of 10 for me would be petite, brunette, dark features, tan.

"She's not what I expected." The pair soon dashed off on their honeymoon in Trentino, Italy, and Polly calls him out on the comments about her not being his usual type.

He goes on to describe her as "the female version of me" and says he can understand with their personalities why they have been matched. When the pair arrived at the first dinner party, the experts described them as having a "one-sided cuddle" as Polly held Adam's arm.

Some viewers have appreciated Adam's honesty about what he does and doesn't want, but many others feel he has been rude and was too quick to dismiss Polly.
