The Married at First Sight premiere on E4 was cut off for viewers across the UK, as the website went down halfway through the episode.

Many viewers took to social media to complain after the episode stopped and a generic "technical issues, we're working on it" message popped up instead.

The website went down at around 9:55pm during an advert break, just under an hour into the episode.

Just before the break, contestant Megan was breaking the news of her upcoming wedding to her mother Jackie and twin brother Mitchell.

When she dropped the bombshell, both family members were completely silent, leading Megan to ask: "No words?"

Mum Jackie finally said: "Seriously? Oh my god." She then stormed out of the room.

Viewers were not happy about the technical glitch interrupting the shocking moment.

For some viewers, the website went down for the rest of the programme, meaning they missed the two weddings taking place in tonight's episode.

Digital Spy has reached out to Channel 4 to respond. At the time of writing, they have not commented publicly on the technical problems.

The episode saw Ant and Nikita be matched and prepare for their upcoming wedding. Ant's father gave him his blessing, as well as the blessing of his mother who had passed away.

Nikita had a demanding list of requirements for her future husband and was called "shallow" by Paul, one of the show's matchmaking experts. The other contestants echoed the sentiment, with Moo calling her "overwhelming".

The other couple getting hitched were Bob and Megan. The pair were matched because of their shared love of musicals and their close-knit families. Bob admitted to having watched The Greatest Showman "20 to 25 times".

Megan revealed that she had never been in an "official relationship", but had had several 'situationships' in the past. However, she was looking for a modern day fairytale wedding and had an entire scrapbook planning the day, despite being unlucky in love.

Daniel said he felt including an LGBTQ+ couple was "important", telling viewers he was proud of his identity and wanted to "share that with the world".

Fellow contestant Alexis said: "I love the fact he's a part of this experience with us."
