Married at First Sight UK couple Daniel and Matt have explained their absence from the dinner party episode of the E4 series on Wednesday night (September 8).

The pair said that their failure to attend the reunion was because they had been held up on their honeymoon.

Before they found out where they were, the other couples questioned their whereabouts and began thinking Daniel and Matt had quit the reality dating show.

At the end of the dinner party, however, Morag received a phone call from Daniel who explained what had happened and confessed that he and Matt, who are MAFS UK's first-ever same-sex wedding, were "smitten kittens".

As Morag took the call, she said: "Hello, Daniel? Let me put you on loud speaker, we need to know everything! Daniel, what is going on?"

Daniel then admitted: "I have something to tell you, I am not coming to the dinner party. Matt is not coming either. Listen, we will tell you all when we see you next."

The other couples fell into despair as they predicted negative news for the pair.

But Daniel had been teasing them as he quickly declared: "Just so you know, we're being held up on honeymoon and everything is good."

Daniel proclaimed themselves as the "dream team" and "smitten kittens" as the contestants at the dinner party celebrated the happy news.

Prior to the call, Morag had pointed out: "Hey guys, guys, one second. Where's Daniel and Matt?" to which the other contestants replied: "They've left, 100% they've gone. They've definitely left.”

With a morose Morag continuing: "Where are they? They should have been here by now!"

Speaking on camera away from the dinner party, Morag and Luke voiced their concerns over the missing couple.

Luke said: "I love Matt and I hear a lot of good things about Daniel," with Morag adding: "I love Daniel so much. That's really sad..."

Commenting further, Luke added: "I just hope they turn up, it's not good news though."

Despite everyone’s initial fears, however, it's clear this was just the beginning of the pair's Happily Ever After.

Married at First Sight UK airs Monday to Thursdays on E4 at 9pm.
