Marseille are preparing to make a move for a new goalkeeper as their current number one Pau Lopez nears a departure for Como. The French club have already made their interest in Leeds United shot-stopper Illan Meslier known to the player and his representatives, amid talk of an impending transfer bid.

According to the French press Meslier favours a move to Marseille, with La Provence reporting that the Frenchman can "happily imagine" himself at the club. The report states Marseille have been told they would likely have to part with close to £20m for the goalkeeper if the Whites are to allow him to leave.

That figure has not ended Marseille's approach, however it now looks like they may have turned their priorities elsewhere for a new first choice target, with RC Lens keeper Brice Samba identified as the preferred option if a deal can be agreed according to L'Equipe. Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Samba would offer Marseille more experience and would come at a price much less than what Leeds want for Meslier.

There have been no suggestions Meslier is looking to get out of Leeds or has asked the club to allow him to leave this summer, but it appears the player would be interested if the right move came along. Leeds will only consider a deal if their valuation is met, with no further need to release financial pressure after meeting their Profit and Sustainability requirements.
