Martin Lewis' MSE warns people who pay energy bill by direct debit to 'consider it'

Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert has shared the energy deals "worth considering" now after the Ofgem update. The Ofgem price csp was confirmed on Friday, with BBC star Mr Lewis' MSE team working hard behind-the-scenes to crunch the numbers on the energy deals worth plumping for.

ITV star Mr Lewis and his MSE team said: "Based on current price cap predictions, we think fixing is worth considering if a fixed deal is priced 2% less than the current April price cap, especially if you value certainty over what you'll pay. You can use our Cheap Energy Club to get a bespoke comparison."

Discussing the EON Next tariff, which it ranked top of its list, MSE says: "Not a fix, but worth considering. This variable tariff offers a fixed discount off the Price Cap for 12 months. It'll stay £50 below the Price Cap, so about 3% less (at average annual use) for the fixed term. See our E.on Next Pledge analysis for full info.

"You can switch penalty-free to this new version, plus your 12-month term restarts from the date you switch." The Ecotricity One-Year Fix and Octopus 12-month Fix were also highlighted, with MSE adding: "You'll need to have or get smart meters and must pay by fixed or variable monthly Direct Debit.

"Available as dual-fuel, electricity-only or gas-only. There are no exit fees, so you can always move if you find you're paying too much. It's available as dual-fuel or electricity-only, and smart meters are not required." OVO's year-fix is "available dual-fuel and electricity-only. You must pay by Direct Debit and manage your account online. You must be willing to have a smart meter installed (where possible)," MSE says.
