Martin Lewis has issued a warning to Waitrose shoppers and customers ahead of the Christmas rush. The BBC Sounds and ITV star's team at Money Saving Expert has spoken out on the MSE website over Waitrose Christmas slots opening.

MSE said: "Waitrose shopper? You can now book your Christmas delivery slot – here's how." The team said: " Planning on having your Christmas food shop delivered by Waitrose? You can now bag your delivery slot as bookings have opened today (Wednesday 2 October) for all shoppers."

Delivery slots are now open to book for all shoppers. Click and collect slots will also be available to book from today (2 October). You can book your slot online or on the Waitrose & Partners app. Go to Waitrose.com or get the app, which is free to download on Android and iOS.

You can pick a delivery or collection date between 20 and 24 of December. MSE added: "Beware delivery fees. Most supermarkets will deliver up to and including Christmas Eve, but opting for click and collect will invariably be cheaper than choosing a home delivery.

"Remember to factor in food costs, as these will vary by supermarket. Try using a comparison tool, such as Trolley, to benchmark the cost of items at major supermarkets including Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's and more." Waitrose offers Christmas slots, but they tend to fill up quickly. Signing up for MyWaitrose alerts can help you stay on top of key dates for when bookings open. Christmas slots will be available to all customers on 2 October.

Asda allows its Delivery Pass members first access to Christmas slots before they open to all customers. If you want to avoid the stress of last-minute planning, booking early is your best bet. At Tesco, priority access for Delivery Saver customers usually opens early, followed by general access around mid-November. Keep an eye on your account for notifications, as Tesco’s slots are often the first to go. Regular shoppers can expect general access a few weeks later, but the availability depends on your location and demand.
