Martin Lewis has urged state pensioners to "spread the word" over a free £432 a month that isn't means-tested. State pensioners can be handed £6,000 a year in the form of Attendanc Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ).

BBC and ITV star Mr Lewis says the benefit could boost your income by up to £108.55 weekly, £432 a month or £5,644 a year - and your finances are "irrelevant". Martin said: "This is for disabled or ill people of state pension age.

"We need to collectively work together to spread word on this one. Most importantly, Attendance Allowance is not means tested. They do not look at your means or how much money you've got. You're either entitled to it or not entitled to it regardless of finances.

"It is for those who need help with daily living. Both mental and physical conditions." Martin explained: "So let's look at the amounts. If you need help during the day or in the night, but not both, it is the lower rate £73 a week so just under £4,000 a year.

"If you need help during the day and at night, that's the higher rate, £109 a week, just under £6,000 a year. Now to be eligible for Attendance Allowance, you must have needed help for six consecutive months. This is crucially important. You must have needed help, not have got help. There are many people out there who need help but haven't got help, which is why Attendance Allowance is there.

"So it is about the need, not the actuality of what happens." The lower rate is £72.65 a week (£3,778 a year). You'll get this if you need help or supervision during EITHER the day OR the night. The higher rate is £108.55 a week (£5,644 a year).

You'll get this if you need help or supervision during both the day AND the night, or if a medical professional has said you have 12 months or less to live.
