Martin Lewis shares magic 'code' to look for at Asda and Boots
Martin Lewis has shared a clever trick to help shoppers save money on over-the-counter medicines at Asda and Boots. The MoneySavingExpert founder explained that each packet of medicine has a PL code, which indicates the specific drug and its manufacturer.
For instance, PL 12063/0104 is a cold and flu remedy found under various brands like Asda and Boots. Despite the different packaging and prices, the actual product is identical.
By checking the PL number, typically found on the back of the packaging, shoppers can identify if a cheaper pill is the same as a more expensive one. In some cases, tablets could be half the price of their counterparts, according to Martin Lewis.

He revealed this tip in his latest 'Money Tips' email, where he also highlighted how many people could be overpaying for prescription medicines. Lewis suggested that some prescribed medications could be obtained for free or at a lower cost over-the-counter.
If you regularly purchase prescriptions, you may be able to save a significant amount of money with a prepayment prescription certificate. According to the website, this is "a bit like a prescription season ticket" that "can mean big savings."
These certificates are most beneficial for individuals who receive at least one prescription per month.
There are two prepayment options available: a three-month certificate for £32.05 and a 12-month certificate for £114.50. When compared to paying £9.90 for each prescription item monthly, the certificate can result in substantial savings.
For instance, someone who receives two prescriptions monthly for 12 months could save over £100 compared to paying for individual prescriptions.
