Martin Lewis' 'urgent' message to 900,000 HSBC customers over £150 cashback deal
HSBC Visa credit card customers have been put on high alert by money-saving expert Martin Lewis, who flagged a potentially lucrative opportunity for around '900,000 people'. To benefit from the rare '£150 on spending' scheme, swift action is required – the cutoff is set for midnight tonight (September 30).
In his 'urgent' message shared this morning on X (formerly Twitter), Lewis called on cardholders to ascertain their eligibility promptly. "Urgent. Do you have an HSBC Visa credit card? ", he said. "If so you have until midnight tonight (mon) to opt in to a 10% cashback scheme worth £150 on spending (though always pay off the card IN FULL to avoid interest)."
Alongside his notice was a link directing followers to comprehensive guidance on the MoneySavingExpert website. The site details that daily expenditures such as fuel, groceries, and travel qualify under the three-month-long £150 cashback promotion. However, it highlights the strict deadline of 11.59pm on Monday 30 September imposed by HSBC, reports the Manchester Evening News.

To be eligible for the deal, individuals must be current HSBC Visa credit card holders based in England, Scotland, or Wales, with the exclusion of Mastercard users, residents from Northern Ireland, and those residing outside of the UK. Upon meeting the enrollment deadline by midnight, participants can accumulate a maximum of £50 per month on vital purchases including fuel, food, and transport throughout the period spanning from October 1 to December 31, provided a 'certain number' of transactions are made each month.
MSE clarifies: "This will be either three, five, 10 or 15, depending on how much you typically spend – HSBC says it will tell you your personal threshold before you opt in. Any cashback earned will be calculated at the end of the month and credited to your credit card account on the 15th of the following month."
While the offer covers all fuel bought at UK stations and 'most' UK-based public transport, it excludes purchases such as Amazon Fresh groceries, department store items, or takeaways. To ensure clarity, a list of 'qualifying purchases' will be provided upon opting in.
MSE also notes: "If you're eligible but miss September's sign-up deadline to begin earning cashback from October, you should get another chance to sign up for the offer later on."
