Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert has issued an urgent warning to British Gas and E ON customers - saying: "Stop the press." BBC and ITV star Mr Lewis discussed the energy firms launching the cheapest fixes on the market in his weekly newsletter.

Writing to Money Saving Expert subscribers, Mr Lewis said: "STOP PRESS: Time to fix as E.on, British Gas & Outfox launch CHEAPER 1yr energy fixes. All three have shaved down prices since last week, so they're now up to 7% LESS than the October Price Cap (though that's still slightly more than most pay now).

"For many who are risk averse, it's a good time to fix as the Price Cap's currently predicted to stay near that higher October level for the next year. Who's your cheapest depends on where you live and what you use - our Cheap Energy Club comparison does it for you, and includes cheap trackers and other options too."

British Gas, EOn Next and Outfox The Market have unveiled deals which, on an annual basis, fall below £1,717. Average annual energy bills will rise by 10 per cent on Tuesday, October 1. Ben Gallizzi, an energy expert at Uswitch, said: "Energy prices will rise for millions of households from October, so now is a good time to shop around for a fixed deal."

Outfox the Market's Price Cap (Oct 24) Fix'd Dual v1.0 deal is currently the cheapest, priced at £1,600 annually for average usage households, which is £117 less than the upcoming price cap. E.On Next's Gust 12m v11/Next Fixed 12m v26 deal follows at £1,626, whilst British Gas offers its Fixed Tariff 12M v15 at £1,627.

The new price cap is £1771, meaning the deals can save customers £171, £145 and £144 respectively, or when put together, an eye watering £460.
