Martin Lewis has issued a £200 warning and urged energy bill customers to get savings on their tariffs IMMEDIATELY. The BBC Sounds podcast host appeared on ITV Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, via video link, to discuss the cap.

"Get off the pants cap! PS MSE's Cheap Energy Club is whole of market by default," Mr Lewis said. The Money Saving Expert founder discussed "options" if you haven't fixed your bills, saying: "Look, for the last five months I have been - you know me, I am a subtle person. I have been calling the price cap pants.

"It's the pants cap. Nobody should be on it - so if you a re on it, which you almost certainly are, then get off it. We are here and we are expected to see the price cap jump three to four per cent. The cheapest fix is six per cent cheaper - you can save six per cent on your bill now."

Mr Lewis said: "The cheapest fixes now equate to £200 a year but most people aren't doing it. Get up off the pants cap, and find the cheapest fix for you." A Twitter/X user said: "My Octopus fixed deal is about to run out. So I tried the Energy Club and if I change I will save the magnificent sum of £10 pa. That's about 3p a week. Goody! I'll be able to afford an extra bubblegum."

"Labour lied in their manifesto saying fuel bills would come down virtually from the off and we would have clean energy by 2030. Does that mean energy bills will rise constantly for the next 5 yrs. This government are not fit for purpose," another said.

"Even with several periods of £1 per KWh in January I still managed to come in, on average, below the price cap with Agile @OctopusEnergy . Shame that the idiotic standing charge is almost the same as my usage. @g__j @ofgem," another fumed.

Mr Lewis was appearing for a chat with Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.
