Martin Lewis warns Amazon shoppers who are buying items in July

Martin Lewis has issued a warning over how to avoid a new £35 Amazon delivery fee. Money Saving Expert Martin, who has his own ITV show and stints on Good Morning Britain, This Morning and more, has shared some handy tips on how to avoid Amazon's new delivery fee ahead of Amazon Prime Day.

Money Saving Expert founder Mr Lewis detailed how savers can still skip on the shipping fees and warned listeners about the increased Amazon delivery cap. This cap allows non-Prime members to receive free delivery if their single purchase exceeds a certain amount.

Previously, all purchases over £25 were exempt from postage and shipping fees, but this cap has now been raised to £35. Mr Lewis revealed that there are still methods for buyers to dodge the shipping fees without surpassing the new £35 cap.

He explained: "If you're buying a book, buy it with other stuff because book delivery has a minimum of £10. As long as you're buying a book worth £10, you can add other stuff in and still get the free delivery."

He also reminded listeners that delivery fees are typically "around £4-£5 on top". He said: "It's actually developed by one of my old team members who built it because he was frustrated by it." He said: "Let's say you were buying a £34.99 candle gift set, you would face a £5 delivery on top because it's less than £35."

"But the tool shows what is the cheapest item you can find to fill the gap, which is 22p safety pin set. Add the safety pin set to the candle gift set, you're paying £35.21 total and therefore the delivery is free." Mr Lewis added: "Often the thing you can find is cheaper than the delivery fee if you're close to £35."
