Everyone's favourite anthropomorphic duck (sorry, Scrooge McDuck) is undoubtedly one of the strangest Marvel Comics characters of all time, which explains why even George Lucas couldn't save his '80s solo movie.

Thirty years on, it was understandably surprising when Howard the Duck (voiced by Seth Green) briefly popped up in Guardians of the Galaxy's post-credit scene along with Cosmo the Spacedog.

Sure enough, Howard makes a brief cameo in Vol 2 too as he tosses back a cold beverage on the home planet of the brightly-coloured Contraxians - so is there genuinely a future for Howie in the MCU?

In short, yes. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige revealed as much during a recent press conference to promote Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (via Screenrant).

"The fun thing about Howard is he shows up where you least expect him," Feige explained, then teased: "So, who knows where he's going to appear next?"

It's now only a matter of time before DC gives us Ambush Bug: The Movie in response, isn't it?

We're personally hoping that Howard is somehow involved in the top-secret Marvel Easter egg teased by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn earlier in the week.

Or perhaps Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Spider-Man and the Guardians will need a talking duck to help them take down Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. We've gone too far now…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 opens on the UK on Friday (April 28), and in the US on May 5. Watch Digital Spy speak with the cast below:
