Is this killed off Marvel character coming back from the dead? Perhaps not, but we could see him return to the MCU...

Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) was first introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The Winter Solider.

Played by Frank Grillo – who also stars in the Purge franchise – Crossbones returned for a second outing in Captain America: Civil War before he was apparently killed by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) after trying to blow himself up.

And this is where things get interesting.

In previous interviews, Grillo promised he was done with Crossbones and the MCU (well, obviously – he's dead).

However, speaking to Comic Book Movie recently, the actor said that Crossbones could be returning to the universe in some shape or form.

"It's great to be part of Marvel too," he said.

"I have three boys who are fanatical about Marvel, and I was surprised not too long ago because there is some news that nobody knows yet, to do with my character, that's going to be really interesting and I'm excited about that."

Grillo's comments suggest he did think he was done with Crossbones – but new information might suggest otherwise.

So what does this mean?

Well, it's unlikely we'll see him in Avengers 4, given he was convincingly killed off on-screen in Civil War.

However, since the Brie Larson-led Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s, Crossbones would still be alive and thus, a prime candidate for the movie's main villain.
