Now that we've had the first (record-breaking) trailer for the upcoming Avengers epic Infinity War, it's about time we had some more Infinity-based content to devour.

Luckily, Marvel has delivered just that, as the comic book giant recently announced the launch of a brand new five-edition series called Countdown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first comic book – Infinity Countdown Prime – will be released in February next year before Infinity Countdown #1 is available shortly after.

We wonder what they might be counting down to...

Infinity Countdown Prime will be written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Mike Deodato Jr, and will follow on from the now-cancelled Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series.

In a statement, Marvel editor Jordan D White confirmed that the story will be all about the Infinity Stones – and not only that, it will 'lead into something even greater'.

"[The story] starts with the Guardians, but... extends out into the entire Marvel Universe, with stones popping up in some very surprising places," he teased.

"Countdown is the next step in the story... but as the name implies, it's leading to something even greater."

We're just thankful we have something to help us kill all that time before Infinity War finally hits our screens, which is in April next year in the UK and May in the US, if you were wondering.
