After winning two back-to-back Male Actor in a Comedy Series SAG Awards for Monk in 2004 and 2005, Tony Shalhoub has done it again for his role in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

In accepting his second individual statuette for the Amazon series, Shalhoub, who plays Abe Weissman on the show, thanked his cast members in the audience before dedicating his award to Brian Tarantina, who died unexpectedly in November at age 60.

“With your blessings,” Shalhoub said, looking at his colleagues, “I will dedicate this to one of our family, who we lost this year and who we miss terribly, the most marvelous Brian Tarantina. Our brother, here’s to you.”

Tarantina played Jackie, the emcee at the Gaslight comedy club where Midge Maisel performs on the Amazon series. Last year he was part of the show’s cast who collected the comedy series ensemble SAG Award.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel cast repeated as comedy ensemble winners tonight, and Shalhoub wasn’t the only one feeling Tarantina’s absence as the actors faced their first SAG Awards without him. When the cast gathered on stage to accept the Comedy Ensemble award, the show’s star Rachel Brosnahan echoed Shalhoub’s sentiments.

“We are missing, as Tony said, one really, really, really important member of our ensemble tonight, Brian Tarantina,” she said. “We had such an amazing time with him here last year so thank you so, so much. This is dedicated to him.”

Shalhoub won in this category last year too, along with the ensemble cast, and Brosnahan for Female Comedy Actor.
