Marvel's What If...? star Jeffrey Wright "can't wait" for fans to see Chadwick Boseman's final appearance in the role of Black Panther.

We're now approaching a year since Boseman's tragic death, but he'd already recorded his lines for the new Disney+ animated series, which turns the established reality of the MCU on its head.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the show's premiere next month, Wright (voice of The Watcher) was asked which episode he's most impressed by.

"I was really moved to hear Chadwick Boseman voice T'Challa again as he does in the show.

"I actually first met him when Black Panther was being introduced at [San Diego] Comic-Con. We saw each other from time to time after that and just to watch him grow as an actor and watch him take on this character, to see what that character meant, and to understand that he was doing that while facing serious challenges, I just find to be on the level of heroism that Black Panther himself is on," he recalled.

"So to be a part of just a little bit of what some of his last work is is really special. And I can't wait for folks to just hear him."

Wright, known to many as the android Bernard Lowe in HBO's Westworld, also revealed what he enjoyed about voicing The Watcher.

"He's described as the most dramatic being in all the multiverse when he first appears in Fantastic Four in 1963 on the cover of the comic book, so this idea of the most dramatic being in anyone's imagination gives you a lot to play with.

"I love the idea of just being able to be theatrical and a little over the top and at the same time kind of subtle with the language."

Marvel's What If...? will debut on Disney+ on August 11.
