Maryland Kids Frightened as Storm Topples Trees, Power Lines

A family in Jarrettsville, Maryland, found refuge in the home of strangers after being stranded in a destructive storm on Tuesday, July 12.

The footage shows the intense storm, in which “huge trees” fell and “power lines caught on fire,” according to Jacob Francis, who shared the footage on Twitter. A child can be heard in the video wailing for his mother after being scared by the conditions.

A family who were stuck in an SUV outside in the storm came inside Francis’s house for safety after the conditions outside proved to be unsafe.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the region and predicted wind gusts up to 70 mph. Credit: Jacob Francis via Storyful
