A masked man raided a Guisborough pharmacy stealing a large amount of potentially "extremely dangerous" prescription drugs.

Officers are investigating the burglary at the Rectory Lane chemist, in Guisborough, which took place in the late hours of Friday, November 8. A Cleveland Police spokesperson confirmed a large quantity of Zopiclone tablets were taken at around 11.45pm.

They said a man in black clothing and wearing a black mask forced entry to the Rectory Lane store stealing medication.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a burglary at Boots chemist in Guisborough are warning members of the public that the consumption of the items stolen can be extremely dangerous. This drug should only be taken by those who have been prescribed it by a medical professional and officers are warning members of the public not to take this if offered it and report any information which could be connected to this incident to the police."

In September, Boots sold the pharmacy on Rectory Lane and it is now owned by Day-Night Pharmacy Limited. Anyone who witnessed the burglary should report information to Cleveland Police, quoting reference number 214764.
