The Masked Singer is set to arrive on our screens in the New Year and ITV has finally revealed a first look trailer for the show.

The programme - which has found major success in the States - will see 12 celebrities compete in the part-singing competition, part-guessing game extravaganza.

The four judges - Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Ken Jeong – have to try and figure out the stars' true identities based on their singing voices alone.

As bizarre as the concept sounds, the US version – which premiered in January – gained 11 million viewers by the time its first season finale aired.

Stars including Kelly Osbourne, Ricki Lake, Michelle Williams and Gladys Knight were among those who joined in the fun – while T-Pain shocked the American judges when he was unveiled as the singer behind The Monster character.

For the upcoming British edition, eight of the 12 characters are a Unicorn, Fox, Monster, Chameleon, Daisy, Octopus, Duck and Queen Bee.

When each singer is knocked out, their true identity will be revealed – and the judges and the viewers at home will see how well they guessed the voice.

It is not as easy as it sounds either, as the elaborate outfits and masks completely conceal identifiable characterises such as age, race and gender.

Joel Dommett, who is hosting the show, teased in the trailer: “We’ve got everything. Comedians, sports stars to Grammy winners.”

Judge Ora enthused: “I’m so excited to be part of this incredible panel, bring it on. I’m a huge fan of The Masked Singer, it’s such a fresh and original show.

“‘I can’t wait for it to come to the UK and to get started – it’s going to be so much fun.”

McCall added: “I love this show! I’m so excited and I can’t wait to join Rita, Jonathan and the inimitable Ken on the panel and see just what amazing costumes and performances our celebrities will be bringing to the show.”

The Masked Singer UK launches in early 2020 on ITV.
