A new trailer for new ITV show The Masked Singer has dropped, and we're both weirded out and very intrigued.

With previous editions of the show airing South Korea and the US, the "global sensation" will be premiering in the UK in January 2020.

The show will feature 12 celebrities – including comedians, sports stars and Grammy winners – all taking part in the singing competition, with the twist being that they are all disguised in elaborate costumes.

We're talking animals, superheroes and some mighty strange characters – just take a look for yourself:

Pre-performance VTs will feature the celebs' voices altered to hide their true identity. Each week, one singer will be voted off the show and it is only then that the famous face under the mask will be revealed.

Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Ken Jeong and Davina McCall are due to judge in the star-studded affair.

The trailer shows the judges throwing some seriously A-list guesses at the performers on stage: Idris Elba, Olivia Coleman and even Sir Ian McKellan. We'll just have to see if any of them actually turn up when the show drops next year.

In its US and Korean versions, The Masked Singer has featured Nicole Scherzinger, T-Pain, Gladys Knight, La Toya Jackson and more.

Whether the UK edition will attract celebrities of this calibre remains to be seen, although we're hoping ITV will be pulling out the big guns for this one.

The Masked Singer will air on ITV in January 2020.
