The Masked Singer US provided a show first this week after one contestant decided to unmask themselves before they were voted off. Yes, really.

On last night's (September 30) episode, the Gremlin had been performing for the judges and audience when they decided that they'd had enough of their costume.

"I wanna take this off, right now," the mystery contestant declared as host Nick Cannon expressed confusion over what they were doing.

"It's not that part of the show yet!" the presenter pointed out as chaos ensued, though it seems that Gremlin was just "too damn hot".

They proceeded to take the mask off, revealing themselves to be none other than Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke.

Explaining why he decided to sign-up to do the series, the Sin City actor replied: "I was in the neighbourhood.

"I do like the show," Rourke elaborated. "I've watched like, four episodes. When they asked me, 'Would you be interested?' So I watched from the very beginning and all that shit, you know."

Of course, this is only the second week into the new series, with last week's eliminee Dragon unveiled to be Busta Rhymes.

If there's this much drama only two episodes in, who knows what else could be in store this series?

The Masked Singer US continues next Wednesday (October 7) at 8pm on Fox. The show's UK equivalent airs ITV.
